At Fluid Wire Robotics, we are taking on the challenge of developing a new generation of dexterous robotic manipulators designed for operating in the most extreme environments, from deep underwater to outer space, and even inradioactive zones. If you’re driven by the idea of pushing the boundaries of what robots can do, this is your chance to be part of something truly disruptive. As a member of our team, you will design novel robotic arms from the ground up. Navigating with design freedom, you’ll take part in every phase of the process: conceptual development, simulation, prototyping, manufacturing, testing, and, of course, relentless iteration. Together, we’ll bring to life robotic capabilities that have never been possible before. 

 

What you’ll do 

You’ll work within our Space Division, and you will lead the development of the full-system control for our robotic platforms to perform missions in the fields of In-Orbit Servicing & Assembly and Debris Removal. You’ll have hands-on access to a broad range of robotic hardware and experimental equipment to test, validate, and refine your designs. You’ll collaborate closely with world class mechanical and electronics teams to ensure cohesive, system-level development and planning.Specifically, you’ll be responsible for the following main tasks: 

  • Bringing Fluid-Wires in Space Applications. You will take the lead in experimentally characterizing our next-generation fluid-wire actuators, identifying system dynamics, and building accurate, simulation-ready models. These models will capture key phenomena like transmission compliance and fluid dynamics—essential foundations for high-performance control. 
  • Design control with bottom-up approach. Development of joint-level control algorithms (position, velocity, force/impedance control); your algorithms will be tested and evaluated both in simulation and experimentally. 
  • Shape and implement high-level control architectures for full robotic arm systems. This activity includes both general-purpose development and space-specific problems, such as floating-base configuration, interaction control with structured and unstructured environment, and other mission-critical considerations. 
  • Implement a teleoperation framework for real-time remote control of our robots. (*) 

 

What you’ll bring 

We’re looking for individuals who are detail-oriented, thrive with creative autonomy, and are driven to deliver work that their colleagues can be proud of. 

To be successful in this role, you should have: 

  • Studies in control system, mechatronics or automation engineering (master’s degree or PhD required). 
  • 2+ years of hands-on control experience with hardware systems, including electric actuators. (**) 
  • Solid background in control system theory. 
  • Very good knowledge of robotics theory, including specific concepts such as direct/inverse kinematics and dynamics, rotation matrices, Denavit-Hartenberg parameters, etc. 
  • Good understanding of signal processing and sensor data acquisition. 
  • Solid MATLAB and Simulink programming skills. 

 

Nice to Have 

  • (*) Experience developing teleoperation and telepresence robotic systems for remote operations, with specific focus on robust latency management and haptic feedback. 
  • (**) Experience with modeling and control of specific electric actuators for robotics that include flexible transmission elements, such as gearboxes, belt transmissions, cable transmissions, series-elastic elements or variable impedance features. 
  • Experience in controlling advanced robotic systems, such as robotic arms, legged robots or humanoids. 
  • Familiarity with ROS2, as well as programming in C/C++ and Python. 
  • Familiarity with communication protocols, such as Ethernet, EtherCAT, CAN/CANopen, UDP/TCP, etc 
  • Familiarity with multibody simulation software.
