How you will make an impact:

At Fluid Wire Robotics, we are taking on the challenge of developing a new generation of dexterous robotic manipulators designed for operating in the most extreme environments, from deep underwater to outer space, and even in radioactive zones. One of the most strategic milestones in our roadmap is the in-orbit demonstration of our Fluid Wire technology planned for 2028 and supported by the EIC Accelerator. In this role, you will help turn that objective into a real mission: defining architecture and developing software for our robotic payload. 

What you’ll do

You’ll work within our Space Division, and you will be responsible for the software development of our robotic platforms to perform missions in the fields of In-Orbit Servicing & Assembly and Debris Removal. You’ll have hands-on access to a broad range of robotic hardware and experimental equipment to test, validate, and refine your software architecture. You’ll collaborate closely with world class mechanical and electronics teams to ensure cohesive, system-level development and planning. Specifically, you’ll be responsible for the following main tasks:

  • Bringing Fluid-Wires in Space Applications. The definition of robot API architecture and development of software for IOD of FWR technology will be the focus of the job. Through day-by-day interaction with mechatronic teams, the software will become a key component of our space robotic device.          
  • The integration with space vessel systems is another key aspect which allows us to perform IOD. The communication between the ground station and space vessel is crucial to send commands and receive telemetry from FWR payload.

To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • Studies in computer science, software engineering (master’s degree or PhD required).
  • 5+ years of hands-on software development for space missions.
  • Solid background in space software regulations (ECSS standards).
  • Heritage in flight model software deployment.
  • Good understanding of real-time systems and real time operating systems for space applications.
  • Understanding in API development.
  • Background in satellite/space vessel communication stacks. 
  • Experience delivering embedded software in any C-family language;
  • Use of common building and versioning tools. 
  • Knowledge of any typical embedded communication interfaces such as USART, SPI, I2C, CAN, SpW, MIL-STD-1553 and related protocols;
  • Good knowledge on telemetry and telecommand standards.
  • Fluent professional English written and spoken.

Nice to Have

  • Background in robotics and automation.
  • Experience in software for advanced robotic systems, such as robotic arms or legged robots or humanoids.
  • Familiarity with communication protocols, such as Ethernet, EtherCAT, CAN/CANopen, UDP/TCP, etc
